Sauz Hot Honey Marinara: BRB Drowning My Pasta in This
I’ve been a diehard Rao’s girl ever since I saw Paige DeSorbo unpack a bottle on Summer House several seasons ago. (If Paige DeSorbo likes Rao’s, I like Rao’s.)
Then Sauz sent me a combo pack of their bestselling pasta sauces and my world turned upside down.
Founded by a couple of “childhood friends turned gravy-makers,” Sauz specializes in pasta sauces that veer ever-so-slightly from what your Italian grandma might make. I tried four of them — Hot Honey Marinara, Summer Lemon Marinara, Wild Rosemary, and Creamy Calabrian Vodka — and there was a clear standout.
Hot Honey Marinara is shockingly delicious. I usually bolognese-ify a spaghetti sauce by sautéing some mild or hot sausage, onion, garlic, and red pepper flakes, then tossing in jarred sauce and a touch of cream. This Hot Honey Sauce? I’d fully pour it over plain pasta as-is. It’s super tomato-forward with a slight sweetness, followed by a spicy bite at the end.
I’m not even a hot honey person. I see a hot honey friend chicken sandwich on the menu and you know what I think? Too sticky. Hard pass. But hot honey in marinara? This sh*t just works.
You can get two jars for $25 in any flavor directly from Sauz’s site, but as of October 2024, Sauz is also sold at Target — for cheaper! Each 25-oz jar, including Hot Honey Marinara, is only $9. Support a small business by buying from the site if you can, but it’s hard to look past that discount.
One last thing: If you’re looking for a gift for a foodie, the Sauz Original Combo Pack ($41) is a great idea.
