The Gift That Made My Kids Want to Go to Bed

Look: I, too, would like it if I never wrote about stuff from Amazon. But sometimes Amazon has the goods. In this case, “the goods” is an indoor tent purchased by my mother-in-law that has become an integral part of our household’s bedtime routine.

Made by one of the many, many questionable brands on Amazon that seems to specialize in every home product under the sun — including, but not limited to personal saunas, boat ramps for dogs, and juice steamers (???) — this bed tent not only lures my 3-year-old to bed early, it has been keeping him asleep longer.

The tent is made of “breathable blackout fabric and reinforced with sturdy fiberglass poles,” which is probably why it’s a little more expensive than some tents that look similar but aren’t as well constructed. It fits squarely over my son’s twin mattress and though I thought it would make changing his sheets a pain, it really hasn’t.

It just gives him a sense of privacy and security while he falls asleep. In fact, it’s so popular in our household that my 5-year-old daughter regularly chooses to sleep in my son’s bed with him, just to enjoy some light indoor camping. (The only drawback to two small children sleeping in a tent is that it does tend to get clammy, which is where the zippered window comes in handy.)

It’s so simple, yet so genius. If I were a kid, I’d love it, too! The tent comes in four dark hues:
